Early Assurance Application Deadline Set for Feb. 18th

The deadline to apply to the MSU College of Human Medicine through Early Assurance is Wednesday, February 18th.

Early Assurance is an enriched, interest-directed program that gives undergraduate students from both MSU and partner universities the opportunity to apply to the MSU College of Human Medicine (CHM) in their junior year (or the year prior to completion of their undergraduate degree).

The College provides early assurance of medical school admission for students interested in becoming MD physicians in an underserved region or with an underserved population.

Please note that application procedures for MSU students differ than those for students attending one of our partner colleges/universities. Current MSU students apply through the Early Assurance Opportunity (EAO) whereas students from partner universities apply to the Early Assurance Program (EAP).

Applicants who secure acceptance to the College through Early Assurance are able to spend their senior undergraduate year conducting research, participating in Study Abroad, or pursuing other personal or academic interests.

While applying through Early Assurance offers many clear benefits, understand that this route to medical school is specifically intended for particular candidates. Students from disadvantaged backgrounds (i.e. the first generation to attend college, graduated from a low-income high school, eligible for need-based grants, etc.) and/or students who express interest in high-need medical specialty areas will mainly be considered for this particular path.

Beyond background, academics and a level of civic engagement is also important. Early Assurance applicants should meet or exceed the minimum academic standards of a 3.0 overall GPA, a 3.0 science GPA, and a minimum MCAT score of 25 with a biological science section score of at least 8.

Preparing for the MCAT is especially important this year as a new standard MCAT test will be implemented in April 2015. EA applicants for this cycle need to take the MCAT no later than May 22, 2015.

Applicants to the exclusive program should also be able to exhibit volunteer experiences along with some amount of clinical/medical exposure.

You've  waited for a decision and word has finally arrived: you've been placed on the waitlist. It's okay for applicants to feel some anxiety when placed as an alternate. That's normal. New Situational Judgement Testing Requirements for the 2023 Cycle: Additional Options and Recommendations

While the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT) has been a standard of the medical school admissions cycle, additional testing on top of academic metrics has more recently begun to show value as institutions aim to assess applicants more holistically and equitably.  To better provide care for patients in an ever-evolving health care industry, the next generation of doctors must understand far more than chemistry and human anatomy.  The College of Human Medicine began requiring in 2021 that all candidates take the Casper Test, an open-response situational judgment test administered online.
